Due to the resistance of some bacteria to antibiotics, research in the field of dealing with bacterial infections is necessary. A practical approach utilized in this study involves the preparation of an antibacterial thin film on the surfaces, which can effectively inhibit and reduce biofilm formation and bacterial adherence. In this study, we report the fabrication of bactericidal titanium (Ti) and copper (Cu) surfaces which involves a powerful co-sputtering method. This method provides a situation in which constituent elements are deposited simultaneously to control the composition of the thin film. Prepared samples were examined by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and contact angle measurements. To evaluate antibacterial behavior, we used two bacterial strains Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Antibacterial activity of the prepared sample was assessed by determining the number of colony-forming units per milliliter (CFU/ml) using a standard viable cell count assay. Results indicated that as the Cu concentration increased, the nanoscale surfaces became rougher, with roughness values rising from 11.85 to 49.65 nm, and the contact angle increased from 40 to 80 degrees, indicating a hydrophilic character. Lithium-ion batteries have led the revolution in portable electronic devices and electrical vehicles due to their high gravimetric energy density. In particular, layered cathode material Li(Ni0.6Mn0.2Co0.2)O2 (NMC 622) can deliver high specific capacities of about 180 mAh/g. However, traditional cathode manufacturing involves high processing costs and environmental issues due to the use of organic binder polyvinylidenfluoride (PVDF) and highly toxic solvent N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP). In order to overcome these drawbacks, aqueous processing of thick-film NMC 622 cathodes was studied using carboxymethyl cellulose and fluorine acrylic hybrid latex as binders. Acetic acid was added during the mixing process to obtain slurries with pH values varying from 7.4 to 12.1. The electrode films could be produced with high homogeneity using slurries with pH values smaller than 10. Cyclic voltammetry measurements showed that the addition of acetic acid did not affect the redox reaction of active material during charging and discharging. Rate capability tests revealed that the specific capacities with higher slurry pH values were increased at C-rates above C/5. Cells with laser structured thick-film electrodes showed an increase in capacity by 40 mAh/g in comparison to cells with unstructured electrodes.

Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Wall, Acanthaceae, is a plant that grows in the lowlands at 700 meters above sea level. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity, alpha-glucosidase enzyme inhibition, and anti-inflammatory activity of Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Wall leaf extract using ethanol and butanol as extraction solvents. The extraction process was accomplished using the Ultrasonic Assist Extraction (UAE) method. The result showed that ethanol and butanol extract yields were 8.88% and 9.02%, respectively. The ethanol and butanol extracts exhibited potent antioxidant activity with IC50 values of (2 – 45) mg/L from the FRAP assay. The extracts also demonstrated potent anti-inflammatory activity with an IC50 range of 0.5-15 mg/L. Also, the ethanol extract showed good alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity with IC50 = 9.49 ± 0.04 mg/L. The butanol extract showed inhibitory activity against alpha-glucosidase enzyme with an IC50 value of 29.12 ± 0.019 mg/L. The results also showed that the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the ethanol leaf extract of Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Wall was slightly higher but not significantly different from butanol; as such, butanol could be used as an alternative solvent to ethanol.
